Movies

“The Good, the Bad & the Ugly” which is right up there as one of the greatest Westerns of all time.

Another Clint Eastwood western movie “Unforgiven” (1992) shows a darker side of the myth of Wild West and is one of the best of its genre.

Quite possibly my favourite movie of all time is “The Train” (1964) starring Burt Lancaster. As well as being an exciting action movie, it contains by far the most authentic wartime railway footage to be used in any movie. Real trains were crashed, derailed and blown up – no computer generated special effects here! It brings me back to my childhood days in Bray as I would have seen it in the “Panorama” cinema – just around the corner from where I lived.  The first You Tube video is the official trailer and the second one is an interesting colour piece – which has only recently come to light – showing the making  of the movie. Needless to say I have “The Train” on DVD and recently acquired the French DVD of the making of the movie. Enjoy!

Another classic is “The Commitments” (1991) – I have it on DVD yet I still watch it every time it comes on TV! One of the best movies to ever come out of Ireland but sadly this official trailer doesn’t even hint as to just how good it is.
